Miles Austin to replace Patrick Crayton

Coach Wade Phillips confirmed that Miles Austin will replace Patrick Crayton as the second wide receiver in the Cowboys' starting lineup on Sunday against Atlanta. Crayton will start only if Roy Williams (rib injury) can't play.

``Miles Austin will be starting,'' Phillips said. ``It's obvious, the guy had 250 yards receiving in one game. It's hard to say you're not going to play the guy.''

Austin set a club record with 250 reception yards against Kansas City, a game in which Crayton fumbled a punt out of bounds and dropped a pass. Crayton said he was disappointed that nobody told him he was being demoted. Phillips said Crayton had been informed.

``I would have loved it,'' Crayton said of being informed. ``It would have been real stand-up. That's not what happened. ... Nothing was explained to me. I had the dropped pass and I had the muffed punt. Maybe that was it. ... This thing is not about fair. That's what you come to realize. Life is not fair. You've just got to roll with the punches.''

Said Phillips, ``We discussed it with him, i have no doubt about that. I think Patrick will take it the right way and do his best. I expect nothing less from him. He's a big part of this team.''

Marion Barber, DeMarcus Ware have fractures but both to start vs. Falcons

Every Cowboy practiced on Wednesday but coach Wade Phillips said Marion Barber suffered a fractured left thumb against Kansas City and DeMarcus Ware has a stress fracture in his foot.

Phillips said both players will start Sunday against Atlanta.

Phillips said Barber complained of soreness after the Chiefs game but practiced without trouble during the bye week. He had an MRI after he complained of soreness on Monday that revealed the fracture.

Barber is right handed so Phillips does not believe carrying the ball or cacthing the ball will be much of an issue.

Ware has not missed a game with his injury and had his MRI on Monday as well. Phillips said Ware has not been slowed by the injury and won't keep him off the practice field.

Getting two-minute drilled: Dallas Cowboys' 'D' faltering late

The Cowboys' inability to stop the New York Giants and Denver Broncos in the closing moments resulted in losses. Kansas City drove 74 yards to tie the score near the end of regulation but lost in overtime because of Miles Austin and because, well, because they're the Chiefs.

Lapses against the Broncos and Chiefs tainted what were otherwise strong defensive performances. The Cowboys defense had a chance to win the game against the Giants and failed.

Sounds like the Cowboys have a project for the bye week.

"Yeah, it's bothering me because I've been around teams where that was our strength, that we made plays at those times and that helped win games," coach Wade Phillips said. "And we've done that here.

"It's something that we're going to emphasize more and more, and we're going to work on it more and more."

The emphasis began last week, when Phillips doubled the time spent in practice on his two-minute defense. Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel was not impressed, and neither was anyone else who watched a Kansas City team that failed to gain more than 38 yards on any previous possession march down the field to tie the score with 24 seconds left in the fourth quarter.

"They got that big play at the end, and I felt like everything we did to that moment was all for nothing," linebacker Bradie James said.

Phillips vows "to triple-up" the practice time devoted to his two-minute defense this week. First, he must discern what has gone wrong.

The Cowboys have been good on third down. Opponents convert only 30.2 percent of those downs, a statistic that places the Cowboys in the top five. The coverage scheme is the same in the team's two-minute defense. So how did the Chiefs, Giants and Broncos combine to produce eight plays of 10 or more yards against that defense?

Kansas City and New York combined to convert 3-of-4 third-down situations. After Kansas City failed to pick up the first down, it scored on fourth down.

Denver didn't need a third down. Brandon Marshall's 51-yard touchdown reception with 1:46 left was enough.

This is what perplexes Phillips.

"Now, whether it's a mentality that we're softer, that's what we're trying to work out," Phillips said. "I mean, we're trying to get that done. We're making mistakes on the same defenses that we're not making mistakes on in third down."

James has a theory.

"You know what it is?" he asked, ready to answer his own question. "I think it's gambling at the wrong time.

"Some guys are just really trying to make that big play and in that particular situation, if you gamble, either you make that play or you don't. If you don't, they score.

"I think that's something we've got to talk about, that's what's been happening. Guys want to make the play to seal off or win the game. We've got to play sound and not take that risk at the wrong time."

So which is it? Are mistakes made because the defense is too cautious late in games as it plays off the receiver and doesn't blitz as often? Or does their desire to be aggressive, to put their stamp on the game, lead to gambles that aren't worth the risks?

This is what Phillips and his defensive staff must assess during the bye week. In addition to more repetition in practice, Phillips intends to call the defense with less time on the clock, forcing his players to think and react quicker.

"I think we could play really dominating defense if we could clean that up because I think we can play the run well," Phillips said. "We have to do better."

It's going to take a lot longer than two minutes to work it all out.

Now with Dallas Cowboys, Rossum looks to return the favor

IRVING – Since leaving Skyline High School, Allen Rossum has played for five NFL teams and gained more return yards in his career than all but one player. On Wednesday, he checked off another ambition when he checked in at Cowboys headquarters.

"It took 12 years for me to get back," Rossum said, stacking belongings in his locker.

"I finally got an opportunity to have a star on my helmet. Why not fulfill a dream that you had as a little kid. It was a no-brainer."

Rossum, 33, signed with Dallas after being cut by the 49ers on Monday. He will make about $600,000 for the rest of the season.

His other stops were with the Eagles, Steelers, Falcons and Packers.

Although he played only three games in his second season with the 49ers, Rossum supplied evidence that he still has breakaway ability. He had punt returns of 75 and 40 yards nullified by penalties.

"We felt like he still had a lot of juice," said Cowboys special teams coach Joe DeCamillis, who worked with Rossum in Atlanta. "He's a guy we feel is a difference-maker."

DeCamillis stressed that the move was not a reaction to mistakes by punt returners Patrick Crayton (one fumble) and Terence Newman (bad decision). With Felix Jones coming back from an injury, and Miles Austin expected to see more time at wide receiver, the Cowboys needed kick return help.

"I have a lot left in the tank," Rossum said. "My body hasn't been beat on. I haven't had a tremendous amount of injuries."

Wet day at practice: The Cowboys practiced at Coppell High School on Wednesday because of wet conditions at Valley Ranch.

Injured players who did not practice were Jones, WR Roy Williams, S Gerald Sensabaugh and LB Curtis Johnson.

Williams, Jones and Sensabaugh should be back next week, coach Wade Phillips said. S Mike Hamlin, who broke his wrist during the preseason, returned to practice.

Woods at Valley Ranch? Some Cowboys were shocked when they entered the weight room Tuesday and found Tiger Woods pumping iron.

On Monday night, the world's No. 1 golfer had watched the U2 concert at Cowboys Stadium from the suite that Tony Romo and Jason Witten share.

Phillips said Woods shared some keen insights with him.

"It was interesting that he was interested in what we were doing, and I'm interested in what he's doing," Phillips said. "He talked about being a leader. He said, 'I'm in an individual sport, but I'm my own leader.' "

Briefly: DB Alan Ball was fined $5,000 by the NFL on Wednesday for his hit on Kansas City wide receiver Bobby Wade. Ball, who drew an unnecessary roughness penalty, said he will appeal. ... New York Daily News columnist Gary Myers will have a book signing and discussion of The Catch at 7 p.m. today at Legacy Books in Plano. The book chronicles the 1981 NFC Championship Game between the Cowboys and 49ers and how the game led to the 49ers' dynasty and signaled the beginning of the end of Tom Landry's era.

Four keys to Sunday's game

GETTING WIDE: The Cowboys have had a difficult time involving their wide receivers in the passing game through four games. So far only 31 of Tony Romo's 76 completions have gone to Roy Williams, Patrick Crayton, Miles Austin or Sam Hurd. The Chiefs might be the perfect opponent to get the wide receivers going. Of the 77 completions the Kansas City defense has allowed in the first four games, 42 have gone to receivers. In their last two games the Chiefs have allowed two 100-yard receivers - Philadelphia's DeSean Jackson (6 for 149) and New York's Steve Smith (11 for 134). Crayton had 135 yards in the season opener at Tampa Bay but has not come close to 100 yards since. To take possibly mounting pressure from the running game, the Cowboys must get the ball on the flanks.

THIRD DOWN DIFFERENCE MAKER: In the last two games the Cowboys have allowed Carolina and Denver to convert just three of 18 third-down chances, a sparkling improvement over the first two games. And today the Cowboys face the worst third-down team in the NFL. Kansas City has converted only 9-of-51 tries this season, a woeful 17.6 percent. Coach Todd Haley said the problems have been on first and second down, but what the Cowboys have to improve on today is how many yards they allow on third down. On three third-and-17 or longer situation against the Broncos, the defense allowed 13, 17 and 8 yards. While they got off the field, they allowed too many yards to make an appreciable difference in field position. Against the Chiefs, they not only have to continue their third-down success defensively, but shut them down completely.

Remember Sean Ryan?

Since 2003, the Cowboys have drafted a tight end in five of the last seven drafts. Jason Witten has been to the Pro Bowl the last five seasons. Anthony Fasano, a second rounder in 2006, was traded last year to Miami and is the Dolphins' starter. Martellus Bennett was a second rounder in 2008 and is big part of the current offense though looking for his breakout game. The Cowboys took John Phillips in the sixth round this year, and he has been a good blocker and solid special teamer.

So who's the fifth guy?

He's Kansas City's leading receiver, Sean Ryan. A fifth-round pick in 2005 out of Boston College, Ryan was viewed then as a Bill Parcells' favorite because of his toughness and blocking ability. He was eventually traded to the New York Jets, spent time in Miami, New Orleans and played against the Cowboys last year as a fullback with San Francisco.

Ryan has 11 catches for 97 yards and two touchdowns for the Chiefs.

Roy Williams, Felix Jones left behind

Roy Williams hoped he would be able to play against Kansas City.

He didn't make it.

It's official: Williams (ribs) and running back Felix Jones won't play against the Chiefs. The two remained at home and didn't accompany the team on its charter to Kansas City Saturday afternoon.

Miles Austin will start in place of Williams.

Cowboys roster move

Doubt if this will alter your viewing experience of the Cowboys game Sunday, but the club did make a roster move to prepare for its game with Kansas City.

Running back Chauncey Washington _ picked before the Denver game, played on special teams, was released Monday then picked back up again _ was signed from the team's practice squad. Backup center Duke Preston was released to make room for him.

Washington had one special teams tackles against the Broncos.

Jerry Jones might fire Wade Phillips, but it ain't happening until January

No matter what happens the rest of the season, Jerry Jones isn't firing Wade until the season is over.

If you can find odds in Vegas, then bet the house.

Fundamentally, Jerry doesn't believe in firing coaches in the middle of the season. He doesn't believe interim coaches work, and he thinks it's too disruptive to be effective.

Besides, Jerry wouldn't fire Wade until the Cowboys were mathematically eliminated from the playoffs. By the time that happens, it'll be so late in the season, Jerry might as well just wait until the season ends.

Dallas Cowboys' Garrett needs a new game plan

The Dallas Cowboys' Ivy League-educated offensive coordinator, who just happens to be the NFL's highest-paid assistant coach at $3 million per season, crossed the fine line between confidence and arrogance last week against Denver, writes DMN columnist Jean-Jacques Taylor. This offense can't afford for Jason Garrett to do it again – even against the raggedy Kansas City Chiefs.

Games Report : Updated October 01, 2009

Denver Broncos

G Ben Hamilton - hamstring, did not participate

T Ryan Harris - shoulder, limited participation

RB Peyton Hillis - head, limited participation

ILB/FB Spencer Larsen - shoulder, did not participate

WR Kenny McKinley - illness, did not participate

CB Alphonso Smith - ankle, did not participate

WR Brandon Stokley - thigh, limited participation

Dallas Cowboys

RB Felix Jones - knee (9/28) - Jones is likely out of Sunday's game in Denver after spraining his left PCL against Carolina Monday night. He did not practice Wednesday or Thursday. Though Jones came off the field after a 40-yard run early in the third quarter and did not receive another carry, the Cowboys believe he injured the knee earlier in the game.

OT Flozell Adams - shoulder (9/28) - Adams dinged his shoulder against Carolina but quickly returned and finished the game. He had full participation in Wednesday's practice but sat out Thursday as a precaution. Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips expects him to practice Friday and play Sunday.

LB DeMarcus Ware - neck (9/28) - Phillips said Ware strained his neck during Monday's win against Carolina, but he practiced fully on Wednesday and Thursday. Phillips didn't seem to think Ware would miss any time.

LB Curtis Johnson - hamstring (9/28) - Against Carolina, Johnson aggravated the same strained hamstring that kept him out of the first two games. The injury isn't considered serious, but Johnson didn't practice Wednesday or Thursday and his availability against Denver is unclear.

RB Marion Barber - quad (9/20) - Inactive against Carolina with a quad strain, Barber again practiced on a limited basis Wednesday but returned to full participation Thursday. Head coach Wade Phillips and team owner Jerry Jones believe he'll be able to play against Denver. Phillips said the Cowboys made a medical decision to rest Barber against Carolina. The team originally thought he could possibly play despite an initial 10-14 day prognosis.

LB Jason Williams - ankle (8/29) - The Cowboys' top draft pick has practiced fully this week for the first time since suffering a high ankle sprain in the third preseason game. The initial prognosis was for Williams a 4-6 week recovery, but the rookie inside linebacker is ahead of schedule and appears ready to play Sunday.

S Michael Hamlin - arm (8/29) - The rookie safety suffered a broken arm in the second half of the 49ers preseason game on Aug. 29. Hamlin should be a week or so away from returning. The original timetable had him out 4-6 weeks.

QB Stephen McGee - knee (8/21): McGee has been in uniform for the first three games as the inactive third quarterback. The rookie from Texas A&M suffered an MCL sprain in preseason and said last week he wasn't at 100 percent yet. But he has returned to practice and is healthy enough to be in uniform for an emergency situation.

Injured Reserve:
LB Brandon Williams (torn ACL)
LB Stephen Hodge (knee)

Non-Active PUP:
OL Robert Brewster (torn pectoral muscle)

Dallas Cowboys' Phillips learned from Mile High lows

Wade Phillips returns to Denver this weekend, where he made his debut as an NFL head coach 16 seasons ago. He recalls his two-year stint and .500 record with the Broncos as a valuable learning experience. He learned not to get too comfortable in his chair.

Dallas Cowboys' Romo could learn from Broncos QB Orton
Tony Romo's wild vacillations in performance - a Hall of Fame 140.6 quarterback rating in the opener, an awful 29.6 against the Giants, a competent 89.8 vs. Carolina - has some critics wishing for consistency ... perhaps like Denver 'game manager' Kyle Orton, writes Kevin Sherrington.

Cowboys Face Brian Dawkins One More Time
For 13 seasons the Cowboys knew they were going to have to deal with Brian Dawkins twice a year when he was with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Though Dawkins, now 35, might have lost a step, he's still quite a player, and a guy who knows as well as anyone how to win games against the Cowboys. His last home victory with the Eagles was that 44-6 shelacking the the season finale last year.

Dawkins had six tackles, a sack and two forced fumbles that afternoon. The guy can still get it done, and the Cowboys know he's a player they'll have to deal with, even if it might be the last time they see him.

"I think we've got a tremendous amount of respect for him," Jason Witten said. "You go against him, you feel like you're pretty familiar with the kind of player he is, I'm sure he feels the same way about me, but it just seems like he continues to play at a really high level and I really haven't seen any kind of a drop off."

After 24 games against the Cowboys as an Eagle, Witten said it will be strange to see him in another uniform.

"You're so used to him one certain way," Witten said. "But he's still the same player, the tenacity he plays with, it's amazing to me how much he brings to that defense and how much everything feeds off of him."
Jerry Jones: We Expect RB Marion Barber To Play Sunday

"Cowboys owner Jerry Jones just stopped by practice and said that he expects starting running back Marion Barber to play Sunday against Denver. Jones said Barber will do more in practice today than he did yesterday. "He did more [Wednesday] than we thought and will have expectations," Jones said of Barber playing against Denver on Sunday.

"I would like to reserve that [decision] to after practice, but I bet he's pretty aggressive out here in practice, listening to how he responded [Wednesday] and listening to these trainers. I'm glad he's looking as good as he did. I think we made the right decision last week [not playing Barber against Carolina]." Jones said if Barber looks "really ..."

Cowboys' Jenkins Earns Nod As Starter
"Two days after he fulfilled his vow to make the team's first regular-season interception, Mike Jenkins learned he will be the Dallas Cowboys' full-time starter at right cornerback. The Cowboys alternated Jenkins and fellow second-year player Orlando Scandrick as the starters through the first three weeks, with Jenkins starting the opener and the 21-7 win over Carolina on Monday. "He's played well," coach Wade Phillips said Wednesday. "He covered really well man to man. It gives us an opportunity to do a lot of the things we want to do." Jenkins took the news in stride, saying he stopped worrying about the competition at the start of the season. "I let it go, put it behind me," Jenkins ..."

Marshall Has A Response For Cowboys' Roy Williams
"Panthers' cornerback Richard Marshall pointed to the game film to defend him against an insult fired in his direction by Dallas receiver Roy Williams after the Cowboys' 21-7 win Monday night. Even though it looked like Marshall broke up a pass from quarterback Tony Romo to Williams early in the fourth quarter, Williams said he dropped the ball. He also said he and Marshall jawed at one another throughout the game, saying of Marshall: "He's terrible. Print that." Marshall's response: "It doesn't bother me none. The film shows it. We were down there one-on-one and he didn't score."

Dallas Cowboys' Williams Says His Role Is Unclear
"After three games as the Cowboys' No. 1 wide receiver, Roy Williams says he's unsure of his primary function. His four receptions for 75 yards against Carolina on Monday were his most as a Cowboy. That also equaled his total for the previous two games. "I do not know what my role is," Williams said. "I'm just trying to help this team win, whether it's catching the ball, whether it's blocking downfield, whether it's whatever the game is calling for. My role is to ... make plays, whether it's in the run or pass game, I'm guessing." Williams clearly wants the ball more. With Dallas averaging 3.2 more rushing attempts per game than last season, Williams has eight receptions, tied with ..."

Must meet the Dallas Cowboys Tony Romo have faith in him

It is not really important what you think about Tony Romo. If it makes you feel better, no matter what I think it is. All that matters is the Cowboys coaching staff and his teammates believe in him. They insist they do.
This should make you feel good. After all, a team has no chance of winning if he does not believe in their quarterback. Then again, at some level, players have no choice. Not even the coaches. There is no other possibility.

The 29-year-old Romo, a veteran of six years, is the only possible choice. Dallas signed Jon Kitna, in part because he understands that he is to save and not to challenge the status of Romo the starter and leader.
Romo, entering his fourth year as a starter either take this franchise, which aspires to go or not.
Understand, there are several reasons why players, coaches and front office believe in Romo.
It begins with his immense talent.
And "if that makes athletic offensive line look good. All you have to do is to remember the frequency of the frequency with Brad Johnson was hit in his three starts to assess the mobility of Romo.
And then there's his vision.
It goes hand in hand with the progress of his bed at a rapid pace, allowing it to take quick decisions. He who hesitates is doomed to failure in the NFL because the game is so fast.
When you think about it, most of intercepting Romo - out of his terrible game against Buffalo on Monday Night Football two years ago - are not the result of defense kidding. There are about his faith, often misleading, which can take the ball to a receiver between two or three defenders.
As a great man once said: "The same thing that makes you laugh will make you cry."
You can not stifle the creativity of Romo. Do so, and you ruin the characteristic that makes them special. You take off his arrogance. And his bravado. You do this just another quarterback cookie cutter.
Believe me, this is not the way to win a Super Bowl.
What we all need to understand - no matter how frustrating it is - is that Romo is still as a player. He only started 39 games in the regular season.
The Cowboys believe they can still improve. Much better.
"We do see something once daily, the film makes us go, 'Wow!" Or "What a play," says Wade Phillips. "That's what kids do. They have the talent to do things that other guys can not do.
"John Elway in Denver started slowly and was said to never be a Hall of Fame quarterback and win a Super Bowl. This gave Elway a player less, but until they do, they have not done. "
He's right.
For the quarter, the key is to win - no cross over or hit. Romo is 21-8 as a starter the last two seasons, and he has already beaten the franchise record for 300 yard games.
But the figures are apparently nobody wants to mention his terrible record (5-8) after December 1 and his 0-2 record in playoffs.
Remember he spent the off season to answer questions about his commitment, his comments after the losses to Baltimore and Philadelphia over the last two games of the season.
Tell enough of his teammates and they will tell you the most important is competitiveness - but not always seem that way.
Those who know him best say he loves few things better than beating if his teammates Golf, Racquetball - where he can proudly say which of the three judges is his best - basketball or football.
Sometimes, however, exude a nonchalant attitude that makes us think about winning football games is not top of his list of priorities.
"It 'a winner," said Cowboys VP Stephen Jones. "She had bad luck in the playoffs. He dropped snap against Seattle, but this has nothing to do with the game of the quarter. I think she will win many playoff games before it. "
It would be better for everybody if it happened at Valley Ranch this season.

Relative Value Rankings: Final Roster Cuts Edition

The Cowboys on Saturday announced cuts today that reduced the team's roster to 52 players. Dallas will most likely sign another player to increase the roster size to 53, and other roster moves are possible.

In light of today's news, here is a list of the 52 players who made the team. Similar to a power rankings list, these players are listed in order of their relative value. Of course, these rankings only represent my opinions about these players.

Two factors I considered in compiling this list: (1) the player's talent and production potential; and (2) how badly the team would suffer if the player went out for the season.

52. Michael Hamlin, S

The rookie from Clemson broke his wrist and will be out six weeks. He will be a special teams player when he returns. It is tough to say what impact he will have, and since he's injured, he gets the Least Valuable Player ranking-- at least for now.

51. Jason Williams, LB

Williams was the team's highest draft pick in 2009. He suffered a high ankle sprain and will be out for about a month. His value should rise once he returns.

50. Stephen McGee, QB

McGee is yet another rookie who was injured during the preseason. He will run the scout team when he returns from a sprained ankle.

49. Curtis Johnson, LB

Johnson played defensive end for the Colts in 2008. Dallas picked Johnson up on September 2 and plan to convert him to an outside linebacker. Given the change in position and his lack of experience with the team, he starts at #49.

48. Cory Procter, C/G

Procter started 11 games in 2008 at left guard, but he was hardly impressive. With the signing of Duke Preston, it looked as if Procter's days may be numbered, but Procter made the squad.

47. Steve Octavien, LB

Dallas signed Octavien late in 2008 after placing Kyle Kosier on injured reserve. Octavien will be a special teamer for the Cowboys in 2009.

46. Victor Butler, LB

Butler is another of the three rookies who both made the squad and is healthy enough to play at this point. He will be a backup at linebacker and a special teams player.

45. Junior Siavii, DT

Siavii was originally a second-round pick by the Chiefs but was out of football for three years. Dallas released him last year, but he made the team in 2009.

44. Doug Free, T

Free did not look good against the Vikings, raising concerns about the depth of the Cowboys' line.

43. Stephen Bowen, DE

Bowen provides depth on the defensive line, but not much more. He had 16 tackles and one sack in his first three seasons.

42. David Buehler, K

Buehler made the team as a kickoff specialist, and he may also contribute in other ways.

41. Kevin Ogletree, WR

Ogletree beat out Isaiah Stanback for the #5 receiver spot. If Dallas uses all of the receivers more than it has in the past, then Ogletree may get some opportunities.

40. John Phillips, TE

Phillips made the squad as a blocking tight end. That is probably more action than Ogletree will see.

39. Jason Hatcher, DE

The former third-round pick has had 5.5 sacks in three seasons.

38. Montrae Holland, G

Dallas traded for Holland in 2008 to provide depth, but the former starter for the Saints and Broncos struggled with his weight. He was not especially impressive during preseason in 2009, but he looked better than Procter.

37. Alan Ball, CB

Ball is a pretty good special teams player, and perhaps he is bit low on this list. He will rise if he makes some plays in nickel and dime formations.

36. Duke Preston, C

The Cowboys signed Preston late in training camp, and some expected his signing to lead to the release of Procter. Preston can play both center and guard.

35. Pat Watkins, S

Watkins was one of the players on the bubble during training camp, but a very strong performance against the Vikings in the final preseason game helped him to secure a roster spot.

34. Pat McQuistan, T

Like Free, McQuistan did not look good against the Vikings.

33. Bobby Carpenter, LB

Carpenter saw a lot of action during the preseason, and he did not look bad for the most part. However, he still does not look like a starter, and most still consider him to be a complete bust.

32. L.P. Ladouceur, LS

Never underesstimate the value of a good long snapper.

31. Deon Anderson, FB

The Cowboys probably won't use a fullback in many of the team's packages, meaning that Anderson's value is limited. Anderson has also been hurt during the preseason.

30. Miles Austin, WR

Austin might have competed for the #2 receiver slot, but he has not looked as strong as expected. He has also been hurt. Still, he has greater speed than any of the other receivers.

29. Sam Hurd, WR

Hurd reportedly looked good during training camp, but he has once again struggled with injuries.

28. Jon Kitna, QB

Kitna is certainly an upgrade over Brad Johnson, but there will also certainly be a drop-off in quality if Kitna has to fill in for Tony Romo in 2009.

27. Tashard Choice, RB

Choice's value will rise if the team truly uses three backs in 2009. He was great in December while filling in for an injured Marion Barber.

26. Gerald Sensabaugh, S

The Cowboys struggled with Roy Williams in coverage. The team then struggled more when Williams was injured in 2008. If Sensabaugh can provide solid coverage, his value will shoot up quickly.

24/25 (tie) Mike Jenkins, CB; Orlando Scandrick, CB

Scandrick will split time with Jenkins at corner. Several reports have indicated that Scandrick outperformed Jenkins during training camp, but Jenkins has not looked bad during the preseason.

23. Martellus Bennett, TE

Bennett has a huge upside, and most expect the Cowboys to run out of two tight end sets to use Bennett more in the passing game.

22. Nick Folk, K

Folk would probably be a little bit higher, but he has looked a little bit shaky during the preseason.

21. Patrick Crayton, WR

Crayton will once again be the team's #2 receiver, as well as one of the punt returners. A 50-catch season like the one he had in 2007 would be nice.

20. Mat McBriar, P

McBriar is quite a weapon as a punter, and the team missed him when he was injured in 2008. He looked better as the preseason progressed.

19. Igor Olshansky, DE

Olshansky replaces Chris Canty and might even be an upgrade.

18. Keith Brooking, LB

Brooking replaces Zach Thomas (who was, incidentally, released today by the Chiefs). The Cowboys hope that Brooking will bring some leadership into the locker room.

17. Marcus Spears, DE

This is contract season for Spears, who has underachieved at times but had a strong season in 2008.

16. Anthony Spencer, LB

Spencer became the starter at outside linebacker with the release of Greg Ellis. Spencer showed playmaking ability in 2008, but Dallas is going to need him to be more consistent in 2009.

15. Kyle Kosier, G

Kosier's value became apparent in 2008 when he missed 13 games. His health in 2009 will be vital.

14. Marc Columbo, T

Columbo has been steady at right tackle for the past three seasons. Adding to his relative value is the lack of a strong backup.

13. Ken Hamlin, S

Hamlin did not have a great season in 2008, managing only one interception and missing a few tackles. It would certainly help if he could return to his 2007 form.

12. Jay Ratliff, NT

Ratliff should probably be higher on this list, but it's hard to put a nose tackle ahead of the others ahead of him. We'll see if he can be a disruptive force again this season.

11. Bradie James, LB

James is one of the leaders of this squad, and he has become a great middle linebacker in the 3-4. He had eight sacks and 80 tackles in 2008.

10. Terence Newman, CB

With the team's trade of Anthony Henry, Newman is the only veteran presence among the team's cornerbacks.

9. Flozell Adams, T

Adams' value is based less on his dominance at left tackle and more on a great deal of concern that would arise if he missed any time with injury.

8. Leonard Davis, G

Davis made the Pro Bowl once again in 2008 thanks to another solid season at right guard. He also played left tackle during training camp, though he did not make this move in any of the preseason games.

7. Roy Williams, WR

Williams will have plenty of chances to show that the Cowboys did not make a mistake by trading several draft picks, including a first-rounder, to obtain the former Longhorn.

6. Andre Gurode, C

Gurode has been steady at the center position since 2006, and he has made three consecutive Pro Bowls. His value is even greater given the lack of a strong backup.

5. Felix Jones, RB

Odd that a backup running back would be so valuable, but Jones make be the team's mosts dangerous weapon. Dallas certainly missed him in 2008 when he missed 10 games with a toe injury.

4. Marion Barber, RB

Some believe that Barber is on the downside of his career, based on his running style and the injuries he sustained in 2008. As of now, though, he is the team's workhorse at running back.

3. Jason Witten, TE

Witten may catch 90 to 100 passes this year. The team needs this type of production to help make up for the loss of Terrell Owens.
2. Tony Romo, QB

A number of fans are frustrated with Romo, but the fact remains that the team cannot win without him.

1. DeMarcus Ware, LB

Ware should have won the defensive player of the year award in 2008. He was simply dominant.

Dallas Cowboys offensive guru Jason Garrett under heavy pressure

IRVING — The Dallas Cowboys’ three Garrett brothers — John, Jason and Judd, each one a year older than the next — had to rewind two decades to their Princeton playing days for the last time all three wore the same team colors.

Judd joined the Cowboys’ scouting department last year. John, the tight ends coach, came aboard with Jason in 2007, yet it was Jason’s surprising decision to return to Valley Ranch for the 2008 season that ultimately guaranteed the Garrett reunification.
Branded a genius for his deft handling of mercurial receiver Terrell Owens, celebrity-hound quarterback Tony Romo and the rest of the high-flying 2007 Cowboys offense, Jason Garrett, a red-hot head-coaching prospect, appeared on the brink of taking over the Baltimore Ravens.
"I think in the long run it was his either strong feelings or even loyalty to the Cowboys for how much they had done for him over the years, and how much he enjoys being in Dallas and how much he loves the Cowboys that caused him to come back," Judd said. "In the conversations I had, that was the thing that came through to me."
Owner Jerry Jones, of course, helped to woo Garrett back with the title of assistant head coach and a substantial raise that made him the highest-paid assistant ever in the NFL and put his salary on par with head coach Wade Phillips’.
Everyone knows the story from there. The bottom fell out in 2008. The Cowboys missed the playoffs and in the ugly postmortem, Owens and even Romo questioned Garrett’s ability to scheme and adjust.
Now with Owens out of the picture, Roy Williams taking over as the No. 1 receiver, tantalizing backfield options and two pass-catching tight ends, the pressure is on Garrett to produce. It all starts next Sunday at Tampa Bay when Garrett will don the headset as the most scrutinized offensive coordinator in the game.

Garrett, who rarely reveals emotion behind his icy-blue eyes when talking to the media, speaks in monotone, offers limited information and delves mightily in cliché, said winning football games is his only focus.
"We talk to our players all the time about being focused on the task at hand, one play at a time, one day at a time, and all those things, and that’s really the way I approach my life and certainly the job that I have," Garrett said. "You do your best in life when you’re focused on what you’re doing and you’re not distracted by other things.
"It’s pretty simple, and it’s probably something that I learned a long time ago and it’s an important part of doing your job well."

The history of the Dallas Cowboys Football Club Part-2

Part-2

Jones was widely despised in his first season as owner. Worse, the Cowboys ended the 1989 season with a folder compassionate 1-15. The community as a man, a fast-talking, hot-dogging, Arkansas hillbilly heavily advertising dollars, "she told the Houston Chronicle.

But the Cowboys failed in 1989 with an income of 32 million U.S. Dollar. Good news for the accounting department is quickly followed by good news on the spot, as the new Cowboys auszutra 1991, with the best performance of the team since 1983. 1992 Jones is the promise that the Cowboys have their third Super Bowl. Even in l ' Next year, the Cowboys once again claimed the title of the Super Bowl. Until then, Jones has almost tripled the value of the franchise. With his income in 1993, an estimated $ 10.7 million, the Cowboys were among the five largest producers of value to all affiliates American sport. As an agent Lee Steinberg said, in U.S. News & World Report "from the beginning [Jones] saw that everything - from the players in his time -- was beyond the size of a football team. E 'part of a company that has cross-fertilized other companies in this field. "

Jones continued financial success in the mid-1990s. At the end of the season in 1994, the number of employed Stadium Deluxe suites from 100 to 300 and the construction of more. Since exemptions for NFL, local TV, Jones renegotiation of these agreements, the promotion of 2.8 million dollars to 6.2 million U. S. Dollar in 1994. Even more impressive was Jones to act wisely in advertising revenue. Step by aggressive selling posters and local companies, the top advertising campaign Cowboys from $ 400,000 to $ 8.5 million in 1994. In the process Jones forged an impressive round of profit. The team of revenue success, paid for those players who won more games for the reputation of the team that has more money. World financial openness Cowboys named most valuable in sports in 1994 and 1995.

Despite the success of the cowboy place Jones replaced Johnson as head coach Barry Switzer in 1994. The movement is not entirely shocking, since both Jones and Johnson were exceptionally strong, and has always wanted to meet again. Even with the change of conditions, the Cowboys returned to the Super Bowl - and won - in 1995.

Jones, continue to seek new ways to transform the field to exploit successfully. He started from the NFL to end the practice for the sale of goods, since the 1994 and 1995 nearly one third of all items purchased the NFL in the United States with the logo of the cowboy. However, the League refused. In response, Jones Marketing with the authors of 1995. Nike Inc., PepsiCo and American Express is designed for special agreements with the Cowboys, not the rest of the NFL. (In fact, the NFL, as a series of sponsorship relationships with Reebok and Coca-Cola, are in direct competition with Dallas various authors. In addition, revenue from the NFL Corporate Sponsors were among all teams, including the Cowboys .) As the Dallas were treated officially fought between Texas Stadium and its sponsors, the cowboys are not technically dependent on resources of the NFL-pooling. However, the NFL has deeply moved by the actions threatened Jones. "The whole system is based on income distribution and access to players, league Commissioner Paul Tagliabue said today the United States. In September 1995, the NFL $ 300 million against Jones, he answered with a countersuit for 750 million U.S. dollars. During the year 1996, the two sides to renounce their combination.

Despite its high level of income and status - the global financial system is of the opinion that, in 1998, the net $ 41.3 million turnover of 413 million dollars - this is not a return to the Super Bowl since 1995. In part this is due to an aging Dallas players. E 'was also the result of changes in the league of the collective, which is just more for the teams to sign free agents from their competitors. While the Cowboys a lot of athletes in their tent, the League of Salarial ceiling prevented include a number of key players, the subtle, but more importantly to the success of the team. 1998 Jones, Switzerland, and installed Chan Gailey as head coach. But this change does not set out to inclusion of ships and Gailey, was released after a disappointing campaign in 1999. Dave Campo has been chosen, the team heads into the new century.

Even with the difficulties on the spot, but Jones is the opening to be envied. As one of the first owners to the operation by a team of NFL, as a real business, is a course that seems destined to change the face of the league for the coming years.

Theda V. Sanders Garvin: Longtime auditorium teacher at Terry Elementary

Theda V. Sanders Garvin taught almost every student at T.G. Terry Elementary in Dallas in the 1960s and '70s.

"They all got to have her for six years," said her daughter Mindy Bonner of Arlington. "They grew up in her class."

During their half-hour auditorium class with Mrs. Garvin, students were taught lessons from democracy to safety – throughout their elementary education. Those who memorized the presidents in the order they held office became members of the Presidents Club. Some of those students still have their notebooks signifying the accomplishment.

Mrs. Garvin, 92, died Sunday of complications of pneumonia at Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church in Duncanville. She will be buried in Restland Memorial Park in Dallas.

Mike Rhyner with The Ticket (1310 AM) is among Mrs. Garvin's former students who can still recite the presidents in order. While he isn't absolutely sure he learned the presidents in Mrs. Garvin's classes, "somewhere along the line, all that stuff just lodged in the brain pan," he said.

The longtime sports-talk personality, however, does remember his auditorium teacher.

"I remember her quite well," Mr. Rhyner said. "She was just an ideal teacher, a very solid educator.

"She was very nice and someone I looked forward to having teach us in auditorium every year."

Mrs. Garvin was an integral part of T.G. Terry Elementary, where she sponsored the school's award-winning safety patrol and wrote, organized and rehearsed the holiday pageants, her daughter said.

Her plays changed the lives of some students, including Vashon Green, one of her students in 1982, the last year she taught.

Mr. Green's mother, Eltee Green, said her once-shy son blossomed and came out of his shell after Mrs. Garvin assigned him to the lead in the play, The Little Fir Tree.

"She was unique," said Mrs. Green, a media assistant at the Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center.

Vashon Green now lives in Sacramento, Calif.

"He still has the little costume he had for that," said Mrs. Green, who added that he later learned to play piano on his own. He now plays for his church.

Mrs. Garvin, who was born in Caddo, Okla., taught piano as a high school student. She attended Northeastern State Teachers College in Tahlequah, Okla., now Northeastern State University, on a music scholarship. She graduated in 1936 with a double major in music and elementary education.

She taught second grade in Oklahoma in Keota and Henryetta, where she met her husband, William Harold Garvin. The couple married in 1939. Mrs. Garvin taught in Weleetka, Okla., while her husband served in World War II.

Mr. Garvin died in March.

When Mr. and Mrs. Garvin moved to Dallas in 1945, she took a hiatus from teaching to raise their four daughters. Mrs. Garvin returned to the classroom in 1959, teaching for five years at Harry Stone Elementary, before being transferred to T.G. Terry Elementary, where she taught for 19 years.

When auditorium teachers were cut from the Dallas schools in the late 1970s, Mrs. Garvin returned to teaching second grade for several years. She was once again teaching citizenship when she retired.

"Everything she did was first class," said her daughter, an Arlington teacher.

In addition to her daughter, Mrs. Garvin is survived by three other daughters, Becky Segrist of Lubbock, Peggy Harrison of Argyle, Betty Garton of Arlington; a sister, Betty Burroughs of Tahlequah, Okla.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Mark W. Williams: Bedford gymnastics coach led teams to nine titles

By JOE SIMNACHER / The Dallas Morning News

Mark W. Williams had a passion for gymnastics that he used to shape nine Texas high school championship teams as well as top state honors for 48 individuals.

Since 1988, he had coached the Trinity High School boys gymnasts to two state titles.

Last week, the National Gymnastics Judges Association presented Mr. Williams with the Frank J. Cumiskey Gymnastics Judging Hall of Fame Award in the hospital where he was battling colon cancer.

Mr. Williams, 59, died Saturday at his Bedford home of complications of the cancer.

Friends, family and many of those he had coached will celebrate his life at 3 p.m. today in the Trinity High School auditorium in Euless.

"He truly loved gymnastics," said his wife, Debbie Williams, girls gymnastics coach at L.D. Bell High School in Hurst.

"That was his passion, that was his hobby, that was his job. And he was good at it."

Mr. Williams "didn't expect anything less of kids than what he expected of himself – and they knew that," his wife said.

"He definitely knew how to get the best out of them."

While her husband appeared to be serious and stoic at all times, he was also very sensitive, Mrs. Williams said.

"If you watched his kids when they did well, he always got big tears in his eyes," she said, adding that he also was a committed father and husband.

Mr. Williams was born in Oil City, Pa., and grew up in Garland, where he graduated from Garland High School.

He started gymnastics on the trampoline in high school and expanded his skills at North Texas State University, now the University of North Texas, where he received a bachelor's degree in 1974.

In 1970, he began his career while he was a college student, coaching the Garland Flippers Club. He coached the club until 1984.

Mr. Williams began his teaching career at North Junior High in Richardson in 1976.

In 1977, he joined the faculty at North Garland High School, where he coached the boys to five state championships and the girls to two.

In 1984, Mr. Williams became assistant men's gymnastics coach at the University of Oklahoma, a post he held until 1987, when he returned home to coach South Garland and Garland high schools.

In 1988, he joined the faculty at Trinity High School, where his boys teams would win titles in 1990 and 2002, and at least five of his teams were runners-up.

He retired from teaching in 2006 but continued coaching.

Mr. Williams was the first recipient of the Region III Mark Williams Award, given for either coaching or officiating.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Williams is survived by two sons, Chris Williams of Fort Worth and Trip Bellard of Boston; a daughter, Cass Lynn of Bedford; his mother, Jean Atkin of Garland; a brother, Jay Williams of Garland; two sisters, Jody Williams and Linda Williams, both of Garland; and one grandchild.

Memorials may be made to the Mark Williams Gymnastics Scholarship, which was established two years ago by one of his former students.

The scholarship awards $5,000 each year to a Bell or Trinity gymnast. Donations may be sent in care of Debbie Williams at L.D. Bell High School, 1601 Brown Trail, Hurst, Texas 76054.

Two or three were seriously injured, but nobody believes in life-threatening condition Saturday night, said Dr. Paul Pepe, Dallas County Chapter of emergency services, a medical emergency.

The history of the Dallas Cowboys Football Club

The history of the Dallas Cowboys Football Club

Part-1

The Dallas Cowboys Football Club entered the NFL as an expansion team in 1960. The engine of the team was the first owner, Clint Murchison, Jr., who paid $ 600,000 for the exemption. Even before he went to the team, Murchison in their personal trainer, hire Tex Schramm, a member of the public with the Rams from Los Angeles to be the Cowboys' general manager, and then to New York Giants defensive coordinator Tom Landry as head coach.

Schramm and Landry, the head of the team for the next 29 years.

The Cowboys' first years were difficult. In the absence of a phase of training or plant, the young team finished the 1960 season with a victory. Although Dallas has its first victory in 1961, would not have the pleasure of a season until 1966.

Despite its origins in the struggles, the teamand a loyal fan. With the mastery of marketing, Schramm has the meaning of a picture for the Cowboys in the long term - both within and outside the zone. In Dallas, the conditions for entry into the NFL, Schramm has opted for the Cowboys for inclusion in the Department of the League, home of the New York Giants, who played in the biggest TV market in the country. Therefore, the cowboy of games to millions of viewers. Schramm ensure team focuses on opportunities. "We have captured the imagination of the people, because we have nice uniforms ... [and] a modest head coach, that people .... E 'was observed only being attracted to people underdog," said Schramm, the Dallas Morning News in 1999.

Cowboys, who is the head of the League of changes began in the same year he moved to Dallas NFL. During the time that the NFL has been under pressure for the American Football League (AFL), an association of competing teams in 1960. (In fact, the AFL, the Dallas Texans in 1960, directly against the Cowboys, but in 1963 moved the Texans to Kansas City, driving).

Pete Rozelle was named Commissioner of the NFL in 1960, was tried behind the league against them. Beginning of 1960, the NFL has begun to lose their shine, since an imbalance of increased competition in the franchise. This is largely due to the fragmentation of the system, the television broadcast of the NFL team. Up to this point, each team has a chance to spread their business and that the revenue (with the exception of the championship game of the NFL, the rights for which the fee should be divided equally). More and more teams in larger markets, more, have more money, to sign the best players. Rozelle was successful, the owners of the dangers of this situation, if two or three teams gained a total hegemony fan interest (and thus the league in total), only slightly. National television contracts were negotiated quickly when they are equally between all teams. Similarly, he Rozelle NFL Properties in 1963 to promote the league as a whole. Under this agreement, the rights arising from the sale of any team in the NFL have been shared with all team shares the profit. E 'was named after the Orange Country Register, "at this time that the League has taken off"

Schramm in 1966 met with Lamar Hunt, owner of the leaders, in negotiations on a merger between the NFL and AFL. The union was consummated with the year 1967 the two leagues with 24 teams of convergence under the auspices of the NFL. All teams have a common project, all the national TV and the League game known as the Super Bowl.

While the NFL adapt to these changes, the Cowboys started slowly, their results on the spot. 1966, Dallas won its first conference title, but lost the NFL Championship Game, later this year at Green Bay Packers. In 1967, the Cowboys did in Green Bay, this time for the NFC title. (The winner will then play the masters of the free trade area in the first Super Bowl.) Although Dallas lost the game the team has the profile yet. Matches will be played in temperatures well below zero, the game (then known as the "Ice Bowl") was attacked and almost become a symbol of football for grainy photos. Dallas finally the NFC crown in 1970, even though he lost to Baltimore in the Super Bowl.

In an effort to encourage cowboy "from the sale of tickets (groups of resources have been enabled for themselves), Murchison oversaw the construction of a new stadium, which was in 1971. Located in Irving, Texas, a suburb of Dallas, Texas Stadium holding more than 58,000 fans. Even more surprising is the Murchison foresight in the construction of 180 luxury suites at the stadium. The difference in the seats, luxury suites and offers comfortable and spacious, with fantastic views over the grounds. Airconditioning and glass in the suite Luxury with another place to play. The suites have a high price, however, and are marketed as a company with an ideal place to learn more about the customer or a colleague. The revenue from the sale of these flats not only the end of the line, but also in the position of a band, the talent of athletes, the team with a splendid performance in 1970.

1971, the Cowboys beat the Miami Dolphins 24-3 to call their first Super Bowl title. After implementation of the tenth season in succession in 1975, still in Dallas, the Super Bowl, the loss of the game for the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, Dallas rebounded in 1977 to claim their second Super Bowl, shooting of Denver Broncos 27-10. The Cowboys held the Super Bowl again in 1978 and were once again behind the Steelers, which is considered by many as one of the most exciting games in NFL history.

The Cowboys success in this period of his legions of followers nationally. The Ice Bowl team has a picture of Scrappy deleted the file and charismatic stars of 1970 - including Roger Staubach quarter, wide receiver Drew Pearson and management of new Tony Dorsett - captured the hearts and minds of fans all over the country. A film, by the light of the championship in 1976, refers to the Cowboys as "America's Team." The shape and the two moniker stuck.

As President Reagan said that in 1980 a new morning in America, "America's Team has ten years on the threshold of a dark glossy after 1970. Staubach retired in March of 1980, while the Cowboys and a return to the NFC Championship 1980 1981 and 1982, were not able to return to the Super Bowl. 1984, Murchison sold the team for 60 million dollars for a 11-member company, led by Dallas businessman HR "Bum" Bright. Bright, some changes of personnel, Landry and Schramm two remained in their positions. The accelerated decline of the Cowboys teams missing auszutra for the first time in a decade. In 1985 the team moved its headquarters and training center in New Cowboys Valley Ranch, but the performance on the ground will continue to flag. In 1986, the Cowboys had their first season in 20 years lost, and things were bad. Both Schramm and Bright sniped publicly Landry, a Dallas institution. In 1988, the group has an embarrassing record of three wins and 13 losses. The team of the fall in profits spiraled with his record. Between 1983 and 1987, the number of visitors has declined 24 percent in Texas Stadium. For the problem in television revenue decreased as a result of reduction in the rate of dissatisfaction with the fans through the conflicts of work, both in the league in 1980.

Despite these delays, Arkansas oil Jerry Jones, the Cowboys and Texas Stadium in 1989 for 140 million dollars, which was never paid for the exemption NFL. The observers were surprised by the price. Shock, if its implementation Jones rose by changes in the organization. Jones is confident that the Cowboys win Super Bowl in five years and now is to rebuild the team. In an act of death threats he and Landry Jones had worked with the University of Miami coach Jimmy Johnson. Schramm joined shortly after, and the same to the Director-General Jones.

Jones was decided, the cowboy, the return to reach the threshold. To this end, the spending - the dismissal of two thirds of the members of the administration - and simultaneously to increase revenue. His first priority is to reverse the exodus of fans from Texas Stadium. After reduction of the normal ticket price, Jones aggressively free market suite. Until late 1989, has 27 of them and threw a total of 27 million U. S. Dollar. Jones uses this money to the players and very good to know that the fans - and ticket sales - a return on the eve of a successful team. 1989 he paid a record $ 10.4 million euros to secure the services of rookie quarterback Troy Aikman in 1990 and wrote back Emmitt Smith, who - with wide receiver Michael Irvin and AIKMAN - formed the heart of the Cowboys' teams success of 1990.

All you need to know about the Dallas Cowboys Jerry Jones, who is still in its first facelift in 1996 when the team last December had a winner record.Last December 1-3 years of mail-in is very characteristic of the manner in which this group has played when the weather gets colder and the games, more.

It may be something other than 2009 to the 11-5 team with a talent and a 8-8 heart? Maybe not, but at least some things are different. It is far, Terrell Owens and Jessica Simpson and games that have been created, and safety Roy Williams left, cutting by 50 percent the number of Roy Williamses on the list. DL Chris Canty starter was allowed to walk.

What remains is essentially the same group that spit the bit last December, losing three of four bows and the playoff race. It would be useful for you, if Tony Romo could take better care of football - he averaged a turnover of nearly two per game.

Romo has some tools to work - the offensive line is OK, his BFF tight end Jason Witten is back, and RB Felix Jones returns from injury to make things easier for the legs of Marion Barber.

They must pass the ball until you Romo has no channel to 28 years, Brett Favre every weekend.

Any chance of a serious playoff run is out of the question, if the guy can not understand what to do with a defense that last season, gave more than 69 points than any other team in the NFC East. DeMarcus Ware led the team that led the league with 59 sacks, but he was crazy about gold.

Igor Olshansky Canty replaces line D, but linebackers (except Ware) and secondary are normal.

Surprising stat: Head coach Wade Phillips begins his third year in Dallas and 8 years as head coach. His team won 70 regular season and playoffs exactly zero wins.

Team Strengths: In the best case, the return of Jones should strengthen the functioning of games. This May not be sexy enough for the fans, but a dominant running game would be to organize the defense of a suspect on the ground and less likely to ask Romo.

Team Weakness: Forget OS X and for a time. " This team needs to suck it and start winning games difficult. In their biggest game of the year in 2008, the Cowboys have lost to Philly, 44-6.

Home field disadvantage for the Cowboys?

Home field disadvantage for the Cowboys?

The Cowboys open their new palace billion dollars in 2009, but the NFL is not the favor of the defense planning NFC East champion New York Giants of the house opens on 20 September. The enemy is very difficult for the Cowboys to overcome - and the youngest in the NFL in May even more serious.

Three of the last four teams in the NFL in the new stadium with a name: Indianapolis, 2008, in Philadelphia in 2003 and Detroit in 2002. The 10 teams, the new phase in 2000, a modest 5-5 at home opening.
Total of 32 NFL teams 19-13 in the first game of the stadiums. The Cowboys were one of the winners, the New England Patriots in Texas Stadium opened in 1971.
But the Giants, the Cowboys On - Dallas back in New York, 24-14, in the first game in the Meadowlands in 1976.
It could be a number of reasons.
1) phase of construction are enormous. Therefore, it is much more that a noise louder.
2) with the new staduims, the higher the price of tickets. Now we see that the cost of the cards are odious, no more than ridiculous, and all the irreducible, the largest fan manufacturers in low seats and all professionals, Schneider-wear, the aristocrats sit in chambers with the lowest and confidence "(read the accent in English) as the indomitable. Thus, the clay is at the top of the bridges and not travel down.
Personally, I think that this is the case for the 2nd Most of the fundamental problems when it comes to real "home feild advantage" - people, noise.
The fans Saturday with her over the years, for many years in the bottom lines are currently about UP b / c of the strong ticket. This strong, crazy, loving home for fans of prices in time, the fans, who - in their ass sit, complain that I am standing (they give me a chance), and the more their casinos - as a cry to stand up and end 3rd and short or Goalline situations.
The noise of the crowd is feild Home Advantage (ie, what's wrong is executed, making it impossible for the opposing QB communication to melee).
With the new Cowboy Stadium, the way of being and as the prices of airline tickets irreducible force fair article in the database, I fear that the home feild advantage is that one thinks of Dallas. The team is the new stadium, a home away from home, fear and habit to him, as they do it and waste.

Losing all those seasons, the Raiders with a series of very sharp peaks of the project, some of which are and those who have none. Last year, the No 4 pick Darren McFadden together as a guard, you can stay healthy, but No 2007 1 Pick JaMarcus Russell must be improved if the Raiders out of the cellar, in the coming years. Jeff Garcia could be?
